In certain scenes, you may be required to fight another character. Fights are turn-based with one character choosing an attack move and the other choosing a defence move. Then the character who defended attacks back. Some fights will involve more than two characters, though there's only ever two teams.

Each character starts with a certain number of stamina points based on their muscularity, hunger, health, and age. Vampires and bear folk have additional stamina. Attacks reduce a character's stamina. Once a character's stamina is zero, they are out of the fight.

# Defence Moves
NPCs are more likely to pick an effective defence move if they have the `intelligent` or `sporty` [traits](traits). If they have both, then they will always pick the most effective defence move they can against any attack you make. If they have the `stupid` trait, they're unlikely to pick a good defence move.

When you pick a defence move for yourself, you will not usually know exactly what attack the NPC is planning, though you will normally be given a clue.

## Block with Arm
Hold your arm up to block an attack. Always fully effective against slaps. Always ineffective against knife slashes. Usually partly effective against other physical attacks on the upper body, depending on the relative strength of the fighters.
